| Principals’ Meet @ Banglore DC – 3rd March 2009 |
There is a native American saying which says “Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand.” This saying holds true for the first edition of the Principals’ Meet for engineering colleges of Karnataka state, held on 3rd march, 2009 at Infosys Bangalore campus.
The workshop provided the platform not only to tell, show and share experiences but also to engage with each stakeholder in the making of a better, more vibrant Industry academia relationship resulting in a highly motivated and mature talent pool.
The theme of the Principals’ meet was GEAR – Greater Effectiveness and Result. In all 44 engineering colleges from Karnataka state participated in the event.
The objective of the Principals’ Meet was to:
1. Share with colleges specific feedback on the students joining us from their respective colleges – in the recruitment, training and on-the-job performance
2. Share the Campus Recruitment Philosophy
3. Thank colleges for partnering in the growth of our business
4. Give them current perspectives on trends and ascertain the way forward.
5. Interact with senior management
T. V. Mohandas Pai, Director-Human Resources, Education and Research and Administration, set the tone of the Principals’ meet by sharing his thought on topic “"Leadership in Education". Knowledge centers should encourage students to have an open mind, encourage debate and he also suggested engineering colleges should have literature courses, which will allow students to learn about life.
Srikantan (Tan) Moorthy, Vice President and Head, Education and Research, delivered the keynote address on "Enhancing Effectiveness through Measurement and Metrics”. The message of the session was “what can’t be measured can’t be managed” so colleges should take stride forward to finding out metrics for the effectiveness of Industry academia relationship.
Dr. Ravindra M P, Advisor E & R, shared his view on various national and international level initiatives like IUCEE, TEQIP programs, ISTE and NASSCOM with academia for development of faculty.
The colleges which had rolled out the Foundation Program exceedingly well were applauded and felicitated. Efforts and Achievements of performing colleges were recognized by awarding certificates, mementos and Instructor on Desktop to colleges. Laptops were given to some eligible colleges to facilitate research and develop effective training methodologies. Awards and Mementos were also given to contributing Infoscions in the last one year for various Campus Connect initiatives.
Dr. Ramesh Babu, Associate Vice President, Education and Research, diligently shared the Campus Connect program status with facts and figures on how the program has spanned out in the last 4 years. Somnath, Head of Global Entry Level Hiring and Campus Relation – Hr Department shared his viewpoints on challenges IT Industry faces in the current business scenario which teaches us to reset priorities so that we win at the turns.
An extremely Interesting presentation on the “The STAR Infoscion” project was handled by Srinath Rajagopal Alapakam and Aruna C. Newton from Infosys leadership institute. Mukundh, Group leader, E&R shared the most sought after College Score Card having colleges specific feedback on parameters like recruitment, training and on-the-job performance.
The principals enthusiastically participated in the brainstorming sessions. Four tracks were identified for brainstorming sessions and participants were divided into five groups. All the major action items for each theme were recorded to take them forward.
The response and feedback was overwhelming and encouraging. Participants gave sound inputs and expressed their desire to align with us through the Campus Connect program. The Campus Connect member partner colleges expressed a keen desire to roll out various Campus Connect initiatives in their respective colleges.
