Deep Dive TTT Program conducted at BBSR DC - 3 Nov 2008
The Systems Integration (SI) Unit and Campus Connect Team at Bhubaneswar successfully conducted a Deep Dive Technical Train the Trainer Program (TTT) program on Data Warehousing Concepts and Tools recently…

Around 49 faculty members from 27 Campus Connect Partnering colleges participated in the program.

The event was inaugurated by DC Head Abhijit Sen. Abhijit shared his views on Infosys’ role and the strategic importance of Campus Connect. Nirmalya Chaudhuri, CC Anchor, gave a detailed overview of the Campus Connect Program and also set the context for the event.

Some of the highlights of the program included:

1. The sessions on Data Warehousing Fundamentals introduced Data warehousing concepts , Dimensional Modeling and OLAP with due emphasis on Operational and Informational Data repositories.
2. The participants brainstormed on developing a data warehouse on the case study of a telecom company. While learning from project management techniques, the participants were able to appreciate the typical phases of a data warehouse project.
3. Introduction to MSBI - The Business Intelligence suite of products from Microsoft were demonstrated with special emphasis on SQL Server 2005. Participants were introduced to SQL Server Integration Service 2005 and then went through a hands-on session. A session on usage of Performance Point Server 2007 discussed on how to improve efficiencies in business process.
4. Project Experiences and Real Life Issues & Challenges. The sessions shared the different challenges for data warehouse projects and how they could be mitigated
5. A case study was discussed based on one-way real time data integration between two OLTP applications for a large US Health Care client. This covered business necessity of real time data integration, technical architecture and technologies used. It ended with small quiz.
6. Action Planning: The participants deeply appreciated the format and design of the Deep Drive TTT workshop and came up with action items on how they can apply the learnings of the workshop to their student projects.

At the end of the program Dr. Ramesh Babu, AVP, E&R, interacted with participants through video-conference on the next steps of the initiative. He emphasized the action points from the workshop and takeaways to implement the learnings in their respective institutes.

The valedictory session was attended by Manoranjan Nayak, Group Project Manager (SI) and Amrita Deo (E&R). Campus Connect Certificates and tokens of appreciation were presented to all the participants. Manoranjan spoke on the importance of industry–academia relationship and emphasized that such a program will help foster students’ career growth in IT.

The program received an overwhelming response from the participants who really appreciated the workshop.
